Grand Canyon / Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon is located in the Grand Canyon Nation Park, Arizona and is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World due to it pure size and majestic views.   The size of the Grand Canyon size is about 277 Colorado River Miles long, 18 miles wide and over 1-1/2 miles deep.  The Grand Canyon National Park on the other hand is over 1.2 million acres in size or just under 2,000 square miles. A little quick history about the Grand Canyon was that little was known about it until the Civil War in the late 1860’s when Major John Wesley Powell pioneered through the canyon via the Colorado River.  Today the rim of the Grand Canyon differs about 1,000 ft with the Northern side being higher than the Southern rim.  The rim itself and the sides of the canyon consist of colorful rocks, cliffs, ridges, hills and valleys with spruce, firs and oak trees.
